The Brain Injury Association of London and Region (BIALR) is excited to be hosting our Annual Brain Injury Conference on June 15th. A half day event for: ABI survivors, caregivers, professionals, students, and community members who encounter Acquired Brain Injury in their practice. Between expert speakers and elaborate exhibits, guests learn tips and trends that can help improve their day to day activities. The conference also lends the opportunity for professionals to network and for family members and survivors to get to know one another in an exciting environment.

This event will explore topics such as:

Guardianship:
Mr. Paul Strickland - Partner at Siskinds LLP. General Litigation and Estate Planning Dept.
Participants will be able to have an understanding of appointment of a guardian under the Substitute Decisions Act. Have an understanding of the importance of a Disability Tax Certificate. As well as basic information to be considered for Estate planning for families with individuals that have challenges.

Strategies to Manage Symptoms After Concussion:
Ms. Shannon McGuire - Physiotherapist at SJHC Parkwood Institue. Outpatient Acquired Brain Injury Dept.
Learn how to identify common symptoms after concussion and understand strategies to reduce symptoms. Participants will learn how to prioritize treatment strategies to implement with their patients who have sustained concussion.

Vision and Acquired Bain Injury: A Rehabilitative Approach:
Dr. Tanya Polonenko - Optometrist at University of Waterloo School of Optometry, HighMark Health, Vaughan Family Vision Care.
Discover how to recognize the visual impact from concussion and understand the process of vision rehabilitation. As well, participants will gain insight on the current research and vision exercises with vision rehabilitation.

Tech Talk: Exploring the Role of Technology in Rehabilitation:
Ms. Bianca Heaslip - Speech Language Pathologist, MCISc-SLP, BA (Hons) Psychology, CASLPO Reg. 4411 at DMARehability.
Participants will be able to express an awareness of the role of technology in rehabilitation and gain knowledge of current and projected technology. As well participants will understand how technology can improve client functionality.
